An incomplete list of drugs and inexpert information

This is a short list of substances that is meant to help you gain a rudimentary level of understanding of the various types of chemicals that are available for human consumption. This list is absolutely not intended to be used for the purposes of ingesting or otherwise consuming any substance.

Alcohol – the most ubiquitous and widely used substance in history. A sedative that is created by introducing the microorganism yeast to sugar, alcohol is not prescribed for any condition in the modern world. However, it accounts for the vast majority of substance abuse, substance use related deaths, and enjoys widespread adoption. Causes drowsiness, lowered inhibitions, short-term memory loss (black outs), euphoria, and temporarily reduces anxiety.

Benzodiazepines – a class of sedatives that causes drowsiness, lowered inhibitions, short-term memory loss (black outs), reduced anxiety, and euphoria. They are prescribed to treat conditions such as anxiety, insomnia, and seizures. Examples: Valium (diazepam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Xanax (alprazolam)

Stimulants – class of substances that result in heightened alertness, mental focus, euphoria, insomnia, and appetite suppression. They are prescribed to treat conditions such as ADD/ADHD and to assist patients with weight loss. Examples: Adderall (amphetamine Hydrochloride), methamphetamine, Vyvanse, and caffeine.

Opiates – class of substances that result analgesia, euphoria, constipation, myosis, and a sense of well-being. They are prescribed to treat conditions such as: severe pain. Examples: Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Heroin.

Hallucinogens – a class of substances that result in altered perceptions of reality.
